When Alltel's service is discontinued, will that affect Verizon's coverage or will the CDMA signal still be broadcast?
AT&T has to honor all of Alltel's roaming agreements and maintain a CDMA network alongside the new UMTS network for at least three years.
Also, Alltel's service in this area was discontinued on Jan. 6th as it was the transition date for everyone to have to be on AT&T.
I thought it was the 22nd with that being the shut down date for those on prepaid plans.
It was talked about a bit in a recent Coalfield article on Verizon's plans to install new towers this year, just said the signal was still being broadcast "for now", but didn't say for how long, so I was just curious about all that.
Oh, well I didn't know anything about the prepaid plans.
Another interesting note, I was just told by an AT&T online rep that I can keep my current Alltel plan if I upgrade to anything other than an iPhone. This is good news because I plan on upgrading to the Motorola Atrix when it comes out.
I have terminated my contract with AT&T and went with Verizon. Wife had a problem with the I-phone and went to the store in Norton. BIG MISTAKE! Got there at 7:15 and they would not let us see a rep because they close at 8:00 and said if you are stll in the store then, they call the cops and have you escorted out and off the premises. They even had this short, fat female security guard in there to "handle" the dis-satisfied customers. I told them if they it was fine if they wanted to be that way, but I had made my last trip there and I am going to Verizon. My bill is actually going to be cheaper at Verizon than at AT&T. Got the Droid X with another cheap phone for me. As soon as FEB 3 comes around, I can upgrade to the I-phone 4 with them. I must say that I won't let AT&T's door hit me in the ass anymore. This is no way to treat customers, especially when we did not ask to be changed anyway. OH, and another thing, AT&T does NOT own the towers, ther are only renting them and when the agreement is up, AT&T's service will be almost non-existant around here.
I got an excellent deal on the droidX.
I am going to have to disagree with you here. AT&T does own every tower that Alltel around here used to own. Go to this website and type in different towns in Lee and Wise County. You will see that they are owned by New Cingular Wireless PCS, LLC which is AT&T wireless' parent company.
Also, please explain to me your plan with Verizon. Everybody that I have talked to and when I tried to price match a plan with Verizon I always came out anywhere from $15 to $30 more than AT&T.
I got a question. Say if one had an iPhone with AT&T and decided to switch to Verizon once they are equipped with the iPhone can the existing AT&T iphone be utilized with verizon. I know they are two different technologies but can that be changed in the settings if you were to switch. Just a random question.
Since they are two totally separate technologies the AT&T version can't be used on Verizon and vice versa. With some rooting and jailbreaking it may be possible to get the Verizon version on say Sprint or US Cellular, but I wouldn't know how to do it.
I wouldn't even get the iphone 4 with verizon. I'd wait because they're pushing to get the I-phone 5 out by this summer.
I got the Android-X and a regular phone, that is how it came out cheaper by putting the regular phone as the primary number, I am saving 10 bucks a month. That is what brought it down to be cheaper that AT&T. The biggest reason I changed is the way the employees were treating the customers up there last night. Kicked them out and would not wait on them, including me and the wife. And then, the cops were being called on the ones who were complaining about the way we were all being treated. It is a sad day, when a company, whose existence depends on the consumer totally for their survival, can get away with treating its customer base in this way. Verizon, I hope, will be much different. Besides, when they get a 'sales' presence here in the form of a permanent store and get their towers up and running in a couple of months, then their service will be superioror to AT&T.
